McConnell management fired longtime dining worker Adan Campos in the spring while his DACA work authorization was renewing, and refused to rehire him after his authorization was up to date.
Members of the Claremont Student Worker Alliance have called on Pitzer parents, alumni and graduating students to withhold donations until Pitzer College rehires Adan Campos, a longtime dining worker who McConnell dining hall management fired while his work authorization was renewing earlier this year.
CSWA launched the campaign on Dec. 3 with an Instagram post and tabling outside Pitzer’s Giving Tuesday event.
At the event, students handed out flyers reading “This Giving Tuesday, donate to a community that cares…NOT PITZER.”
The flyers highlighted Pitzer’s lack of response to the Rehire Adan campaign so far, which has included four delegations to Pitzer administrators, five days of dining hall boycotts, and 1,300 community member and 70 Pitzer worker signatures on petitions for Adan’s rehiring.
The flyers linked to a Google Form pledge to withhold donations, and QR codes for mutual aid drives for two Pitzer staff members’ medical needs.
